Dig deep enough (sorry!) in to the Aquind planning application details and you can find some information on the approach to the digging of the trench for the proposed interconnector power cables but it is hard to visualise the scale of the work needed. All the more so when the planned cable trenches would run down busy main roads in Portsmouth, Cosham and Waterlooville.
To get a sense of the work (and space) that would be required, have a watch of this informative video showing the digging of a similar power cable trench, the space needed for the soil removed, space for works vehicles, access, etc.
Now imagine that, and the Eastern Road at 8am on a Monday morning…
